Comment from Ellen Piro- President Norway's ME-Forening

The 29. March 2007 is now a historic day in the history of ME in Norway! This is the day when the ME patients were finally heard!

The day started very early with "Good morning, Norway" on TV2. Here the Minister of Health, Sylvia Brustad, Line Kromvoll (ME-patient) and myself were talking about ME and the situation in Norway.

Later in the day a 1 hour and 10 min. debate in Stortinget (Norwegian Parliament) took place about ME and what should be done about the situation. Listening to this, you'd think that "we have succeeded", but I am now "old" in the game; I know that the opposition will be strong! However, if you listen carefully, we get all the support and it is a fact that the knowledge is poor in the health services and the patients are treated badly (the list is long). The Minister of Health made a lot of promises, including money, and she wants the "users" (including the Norwegian M.E. Association) to be involved - all the way! In other words: we have been heard and believed, and they recognise and respect our experience, knowledge and competence and wants us involved in all the undertakings suggested!!

Best wishes

Ellen
