Race Against TiME

To honour the pwme (and their carers/parents) who are having to endure this biological illness - whilst the absence of publicly funded biomedical research into Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME) is allowed to continue by governments - the groups and individuals below have signed up to the following statement to mark ME Awareness Month and ME Awareness Day, 12th May 2006.

People with M.E. are losing their lives because the illness is not being treated seriously.

We, the undersigned, today begin the Race against TiME campaign to highlight the need for more awareness of and bio-medical research  into Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME).
As we approach ME Awareness Month - May 2006 - we are joining forces to publicise the needs of people with M.E.

1. We ask that all Governments recognise the severity of this condition, Myalgic Encephalomyelitis. We call for bio-medical research and for  public money to  be ring-fenced for this purpose.
2. We ask that the Canadian Consensus Diagnostic Guidelines be adopted in  the UK, and worldwide, and that collation of statistics on the incidence of Myalgic Encephalomyelitis follows from this.

As the first initiative can we begin the ball rolling by agreeing to the following -

  1. Sign up to the joint statement above where we agree to the objectives of the campaign and describe how we will be supporting each other in the coming months by advertising each other's events and plans for ME Awareness Month
  2. Begin our planning of events for ME Awareness Month - this would include a coordinated and collective timetable of the events you have already planned, or are planning. We would bring all events under the one banner and could support each other with publicity of the individual, unique events as well as helping out, as required, with any specific support.
  3. Begin the advertising/publicity generation/sponsorship seeking around the broader campaign. This would mean getting local MPs on board, contacting local TV/radio/newspapers, etc.
  4.  We need to begin working together on this as soon as possible.

Please join us and make awareness the key issue of ME Awareness MONTH - May 2006.
