Irish ME Trust Donation Supports International Collaboration and Young Researcher Development at IIMEC17, BRMEC14, and Young EMERG Workshop
Invest in ME Research is delighted to announce a generous donation from our European ME Alliance partners, the Irish ME Trust (IMET), to support Invest in ME Research’s International ME Conference Week from 26–30 May 2025.
This vital support continues a long-standing partnership that has significantly contributed to advancing biomedical research into Myalgic Encephalomyelitis.
The conference week events take a great deal of the charity's resources to arrange as, apart from
all of the speakers at the events,
the charity is supporting
the European ME Research Group and Young EMERG, and also an increasing number of researchers and clinicians in order to
increase the opportunities for collaboration and cooperation in research.
Thanks to our supporters we have managed to continue this every year.
IMET’s commitment to Invest in ME Research has also been one of the enduring features of the International ME
Conference Week since it began in 2006.
IMET was also a key founding member of the European ME Alliance, now
representing countries across Europe, and has consistently supported IiMER’s efforts. Their ongoing collaboration
has been instrumental in fostering a pan-European research community and in enabling important projects, including
the research centre at Norwich Research Park, that has benefited from previous IMET donations.

Supporting International Collaboration and Building Research Capacity
This year, IMET’s administrative sponsorship allows us to use our funds to bring together leading researchers at the 17th International ME Conference (IIMEC17) and the 14th Biomedical Research into ME Colloquium (BRMEC14), as well as to support the Young EMERG Workshop—a dedicated event aimed at nurturing the next generation of ME researchers.
As IiMER approaches two decades of work, the charity’s focus for 2025 is on building research capacity, encouraging early-career researchers, and fostering new collaborations that will drive progress in understanding and treating ME.
Thanks to IMET’s generous support, Invest in ME Research is able to subsidise attendance for early-career researchers (ECRs) at these events, and make the Young EMERG SPARK ME workshop free to encourage interest. By reducing financial barriers, the charity ensures that promising young scientists can participate, present their work, and connect with established experts. Investing in emerging researchers is essential for sustaining momentum in ME research and encouraging fresh ideas and cross-disciplinary partnerships.
Sustained Support Leading to Tangible Progress
IMET’s support forms part of a broader tradition of generosity from Irish organisations and individuals towards ME research. Over the years, these contributions have helped fund fellowships, clinical trials, and the establishment of the UK/European Centre of Excellence for ME at Norwich Research Park. These donations have enabled IiMER to organise international, CPD-accredited scientific meetings, support innovative research, and create opportunities for healthcare professionals, patients, and carers to engage with the latest developments.
The IIMEC17, BRMEC14, and Young EMERG events continue our commitment to bringing together international expertise, fostering open and collaborative dialogue, and building a supportive environment for both established and emerging researchers. These workshops, colloquiums, and conferences attract participants from across Europe, North America, and beyond - including experts from the NIH and CDC - providing a unique platform for advancing biomedical research into ME.

Acknowledging Our Partners
Invest in ME Research extends sincere thanks to the Irish ME Trust for their continued generosity and partnership. Their sponsorship makes it possible to deliver ambitious events and invest in the future of ME research by supporting young investigators. We encourage all attendees at this year’s conference to join us in thanking IMET.
With partners like the Irish ME Trust, Invest in ME Research continues to build a global community dedicated to finding answers for ME—one that values collaboration, innovation, and the next generation of scientific leaders.
