CONFERENCE DESCRIPTION

This
will be the
seventh annual Invest in ME international biomedical conference on
myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME/CFS)
and will be fully CPD-accredited.
The conference will be
held on
1st June
2012 in Westminster, London and
builds on the successful biomedical research conferences organised by Invest in ME in
previous years.
Invest in ME aim to raise awareness of the neurological illness
myalgic encephalomyelitis - an illness which is 5 times more common in the
UK than HIV/AIDS - yet which has had comparatively little funding spent on biomedical
research.
The Invest in ME International ME/CFS Conference 2012 brings together leading
clinicians and researchers in the fields of general medicine, diagnostics,
immunology, Central Nervous System (CNS) Inflammation and clinical trials to
discuss the central issues and current challenges involved in the diagnosis,
treatment and management of patients with myalgic encephalomyelitis.
One of the most important aspects at previous
IiME conferences has been the creation or resumption of the
unique networking opportunities available with some
of the most renowned experts on ME/CFS and related fields in the world.
How can we ensure ME research and patient care benefit from the latest thinking in ME/CFS and related areas of research? What is the best way forward? Join our programme of outstanding speakers for insight into these issues and more at
IIMEC7 - The Invest in ME 2012 International ME/CFS Conference.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND
The conference will appeal to healthcare professionals, doctors, nurses,
paediatricians, occupational therapists, researchers, ME/CFS support groups,
people with ME/CFS and those working in social services, educational support and
the media.
The conference provides an opportunity for people within
government, health departments, social services and education to be able to
be informed of the true nature of ME/CFS and of the current status of
diagnosis, treatment and current/future biomedical research possibilities.
Maximum 6 point CPD-accreditation
is available to those registering in the professional category.

Past IiME Conferences
Our 2006 conference and
our 2-day 2007 conference established a platform for presentation of
biomedical research into ME/CFS.S. Our 2008 conference in London focused
on Sub Grouping and Treatments and showed indisputable proof from leading
ME/CFS experts regarding the pathology of this illness. Our 2009
conference concentrated on the severely-affected people with ME. Our 2010
conference concentrated on the new era of ME/CFS research which had been
created by awareness of the retroviral implications in ME/CFS. For 2011 the
focus was on translational biomedical research into ME/CFS highlighting the
need to initiate clinical trials using homogeneous patient cohorts and
correct clinical guidelines.
The education of
healthcare staff about ME/CFS must reflect the latest knowledge about the
pathogenesis of ME/CFS which high quality biomedical research is providing.

IiME Proposal for a Research and
Examination Facility for ME
Translational biomedical research - an iterative feedback of
information between the basic and clinical research domains in order
to accelerate knowledge translation from the lab to the bedside and
back to the lab again - needs to be implemented to translate the
findings in basic research more quickly and efficiently into medical
practice. This will produce more meaningful health outcomes and
facilitate the sharing of repositories and research-based facilities
and laboratories. This is the model IiME are attempting to promote
in the proposal for an examination and research facility based in
Norwich [click
