Invest in ME have previously warned in our newsletters of the obfuscation of the establishment organisations and their supporters. Professor Malcolm Hooper has provided ample evidence of this (Magical Medicine: How to Make a Disease Disappear - click here).

Invest in ME was set up out of frustration - frustration by the lack of progress in getting proper properly funded biological research into ME, frustration by the apathy toward change from existing organisations and even some charities which, in turn, condemned people with ME and their families to more years of suffering.

Progress in getting this illness treated properly has been slow - far too slow.

Therefore, it is of concern that we publish Dr David Bell's warning (click here) about the dangers from the establishment in employing known tactics to hamper the current work on XMRV by the WPI.

Our conferences were started to provide a platform for biomedical research so that healthcare staff, media, politicians and patients/patient groups could become aware of the extensive mass of biomedical research, could hear of the latest news of treatments and research, and could be made aware of the misinformation about ME being promoted by the same institutions, charities and individuals who were content with a status-quo of stalemate.

Having invited the Whittemore-Peterson institute to our 2007 conference, and then deciding to reserve a permanent place in future conferences for the WPI, it has been clear to us that the WPI had the vision to pursue a co-ordinated strategy of biomedical research into ME. The ambitious plans of the WPI for researching ME/CFS, and other neuro-immune diseases, is the beacon for many in the world.

The XMRV research published last year has energised ME research and provided more hope for people with ME and their families than all of the so-called strategies which the USA CDC and UK Medical Research Council have produced in the last twenty years.

Following Dr. Bell's warning Invest in ME will therefore use the proceeds from our wristbands for ME Awareness Month campaign (click here) to support the WPI. We know this may not amount to much and is largely symbolic but we feel it is important to show our support and this will follow the ethos behind Dr Bell's comments. We hope to be able to do more to help the WPI in the future.

We invite everyone in UK and Europe and beyond to support the comments of Dr. Bell and make a gesture by buying our Support Biomedical Research wristbands. By doing so you will be supporting IiME, supporting the WPI and promoting ME awareness.
