Hello Everyone,
My name is Sheryl Nairn and I have had M.E. for 19 years.
I'm really pleased to have found your site (through the Co-Cure newsletter)
and think it is excellent. Very clear and easy to understand (even for me
and my befuddled brain!).
Just thought I'd write as I read about your effort to get our MP's off their
backsides to help us - surely a signature isn't too much to ask for?!
Well, apparently it is. I emailed my MP Vincent Cable (Lib/Dem for
Twickenham, who is very supportive of health issues) in September and had two positive responses on 26.9.05 and 29.9.05 agreeing to
sign on his return to parliament.
On checking the EDM 260 site in October, he hadn't signed.
I wrote a short note asking again, and received a reply on 8.11.05
saying that, being his party's Shadow Chancellor he cannot sign
motions with spending commitments however much he supports the
cause.
I'm unsure if, after agreeing to sign in September, he became Shadow
Chancellor and then couldn't. I don't really understand the reasons and I've not been up to following it up, but just thought you would like to know
the result of my contact with my MP. If you want, I can send you copies
of my/his correspondence.
Good Luck and Best Wishes,
Sheryl
