Invest in ME Research
Christmas Fund Appeal Advent Calendar
The COVID-19 pandemic has, of course affected everything this year.
Any Christmas appeal is, therefore, muted and respectful that so many people have endured all sorts of horrors and hardship during 2020.
If we are able to raise funds in a Christmas Fund Appeal this year then the aim will be to help us continue to develop the strategy of biomedical research being performed in a hub for research into ME with European collaboration - a UK/European Centre of Excellence for ME - one of several initiatives by the charity.
UK charity Invest in ME Research has been working for over fifteen years to find, facilitate and fund high-quality biomedical research into ME.
The charity has been responsible for or played a role in initiating collaborative projects such as the European ME Alliance, European ME Research Group and European ME Clinicians Group to build the necessary infrastructure and increase research capacity and agree standards and improve patient care.
It has taken too long - for fifteen years the charity has accepted finite disappointment, but never lost infinite hope.
The charity and its amazing supporters have led the way in bringing forth changes that have forced a turn-around in the direction that would have otherwise have continued to be followed.
The charity believes that high-quality biomedical research into ME is necessary to uncover the cause(s) of ME and facilitate development of treatments for the disease.
Appropriately this year 1st December begins on #GivingTuesday - a campaign of philanthropy for charitable causes.
In the charity we have seen an impressive level of philanthropy from supporters that is not composed only of financial support (even though there is an undoubted need in that area).
As we will see in stories in the coming days it consists also of time spent in initiating and performing events and ideas that lead to greater awareness about ME; it consists or efforts made by some who have so little to give but still attempt to do more.
Our strategy continues to be to develop further this UK/European hub that can attract researchers, physicians and healthcare staff to study and treat this disease and allow collaboration with other Centres of Excellence in other countries as the foundations expand.
Our Christmas Advent Calendar during December looks at different aspects of ME - some of the issues, some information, what we are doing, what needs to be done, and some showing the positive attitude that we and our supporters maintain to build a brighter future.
We wish all people with ME and their families some respite from the effects and consequences of this disease and look forward to making rapid progress in research into ME for the future.
